Certificates of Appreciation Awarded in South Korea

Since 2017, Warners have had up to 25 surveyors on site in the DSME (Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering) Yard in South Korea, carrying out dimensional control survey works for the fabrication of the PARs and PAUs for the single weld hook up Tengizchevroil project in Kazakhstan.

As we are inside the last 12 months of these fabrication works in South Korea, the TCO FGP Fabrication Leadership team has awarded our surveyors a ‘Certificate of Appreciation’. The wording states:

“The TCO FGP Fabrication Leadership team would like to recognize you for your outstanding
contributions to the FGP Fabrication project. Your contributions have led to world class
dimensional control results which are enabling tremendous success in the module reintegration
scope of work in Tengiz. Thank you for all your hard work and dedicationto the success of the
TCO FGP Project.”

Recognition Highlighted to Site Teams in Tangiz, Kazakhstan

Earlier in the project, to compliment the above – on site in Tengiz, where the Warners site teams are receiving the fabricated PAUs and PARs and installing them, the Site Management Team published the following:

Recognition given to Warner Surveys Team throughout their site control activities. This includes the
successful start of the unit placement campaign….and now this week extending to providing leadership
and guidance to the new team on site; the Warner Surveys team continue to excel at both delivering
their scope and helping others to achieve their targets within and outside the teams across both sites”

The TCO FGP project is widely recognised as the largest oil and gas project in the world, and the Warners management team on site, and those based in the UK are extremely proud of the work our survey teams have undertaken over 8 years in South Korea & Kazakhstan. In addition, we have carried out supporting survey works in the following countries: Italy, Germany, Spain, UK, Indonesia, China, Dubai, Turkey & Azerbaijan

Fresh from our recent shortlisting for the CN Specialists Awards we are delighted to have also been shortlisted for the Thames Valley Business & Community Awards 2019! Hundreds of nominations have been whittled down to a shortlist for the Thames Valley Business & Community Awards 2019.

The awards scheme, organised by Great British Expos, recognises the region’s most ambitious, inspirational and exciting businesses, charities and individuals. A record number of entries meant it was the toughest year to create its shortlist, however the shortlisted nominees have been released and can be seen via the following link: http://www.thamesvalleyawards.co.uk/shortlisted-nominees/

Among the current shortlisted nominations are entrepreneurs who had innovated unique solutions to the problems they faced, put their heart and soul into making their industry better, overcome personal and professional hardship to triumph in business, and more. This year, the standard of entrants is already very high that we are might exceed last year’s shortlisted record of 163 for the awards across the award categories. While we cannot give all nominees an award, each winner is truly deserving of recognition for their achievements.

The Thames Valley Business and Community Awards judging process will see a range of esteemed entrepreneurs come together to scrutinise and select our finalists from the short-listed nominees and choose the winners among them. Jackie Chappell (Renowned Thames Valley Entrepreneur & 1st Woman CEO of British Rail) is again part of the judging panel and said:

“Judging this year’s awards will be tough. Every entry is of a very high standard and each one is unique which makes the decision harder. I’m very proud of the quality of businesses that we have in this region and these awards give them the true recognition that they deserve.”

Alec Jones-Hall, Director of Thames Valley Business and Community Award’s said:

“We are proud and excited to be celebrating outstanding achievement across the region and rewarding those who are making a huge impact throughout the Thames Valley.”

The winners from the 14 categories will be announced at the award ceremony in The Hilton, Reading, on Thursday January 30 with one being hailed The Business of the Year. The stars of the ceremony will undoubtedly be the Awards winners.

Movember is ‘an annual event involving the growing of moustaches during the month of November to raise awareness of men’s health issues, such as Anxiety, prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men’s suicide’. The Movember Foundation runs the Movember charity event, housed at Movember.com. The goal of Movember is to “change the face of men’s health.” (Movember Wikipedia) This Movember saw the London office taking part in the annually organised charity Moustache growing event. Members from the London office undertook the challenge this year, with somewhat differing levels of success.

It doesn’t matter if you’re a Mo Bro or a Mo Sista, Movember is for everyone. Testicular cancer is the most common cancer in men under 40, and the Movember Foundation is working to halve the number of deaths from testicular cancer by 2030. I want to help them get there.

Warner Surveys are pleased to announce that we have been granted enhanced permission from the CAA to operate our UAVs and Drones at reduced distances. This enables us to take off within 10 meters of Person, Vessel, Vehicle or Structure (PVVS), not under the remote pilots control.

This makes us one of only a handful of operators within the UK to be granted these enhanced permissions. This new permission is especially useful in urban areas where a densely packed urban environment can make controlling space more problematic. It will also help us reduce the impact of such surveys by minimising the requirement to install measures such as traffic management.

On Wednesday 22 May, Warner Surveys showcased at Geo Business 2019 Theatre 3 at 11:25am. Presented by Dipaneeta Das, CAD Technology and BIM Manager and Rob, BDM, the talk focused on Scan to BIM / Scan vs BIM: Best Practices for Quality Assurance.

Geo Business is the UK’s leading Geospatial Event. With more than 2,600 visitors the show features talks and discussions from industry leaders as well as trade stands highlighting the latest technology and innovation.

Our presentation being based on over 15 years of successfully delivering laser scanning, 3D models and more recently Revit models, the talk focused on the Best Practices 7 habits in delivering Scan to BIM projects. They are:

1. Scope of Work

o What is the ultimate aim of the data?

2. Execution Plan

o How best to undertake the survey and modelling

3. Data Capture and Control

o Robust, Repeatable and Auditable survey data capture

4. Registration

    o Stitching the scans

5. Modelling

o Creating BIM-ready models from point cloud

6. Quality Check

o Final checks to ensure auditable accuracy of the deliverable

7. Data Issue and Management

o Often having huge file sizes, how best to manage and deliver the data

Broadly speaking, “scan-to-BIM” refers to the process of “3D laser scanning” a physical space or site, to create an accurate digital representation of it. That representation can then be used for designing, assessing progress or evaluating options.

It should be also noted that the term ‘Scan to BIM’ implies laser scanning as the main form of data collection, however modern survey technology allows photogrammetry techniques to also capture point cloud data. Combined with UAVs we are likely to continue to see a shift towards multiple types of sensors utilised for data collection.

Warner Surveys offers the full range of BIM services, with applications in all types of surveying and in all sectors, and is experienced in collaborating to deliver high profile BIM projects to meet clients’ exacting standards. For further information on Scan to BIM services please click here.

As winter draws to an end, we hopefully welcome some better weather with the onset of spring……

We have made significant progress in a few key areas this year, particularly with the continued expansion of our Birmingham office. With Jim Douglas joining us in March we are now able to dedicate more time and resource to the local area which is currently home to our specialist UAV and sub-surface utilities department.

We are also expanding in London, in particular to the east. We now have a presence in Romford, enabling us to cover the whole city as well as surrounding areas, providing local surveyors and personnel. In keeping with our ‘local’ philosophy, as well as our commitment to giving young people an opportunity within the industry, we have recently had a number of current students of Surveying and Mapping Science from the University of East London join us. We hope that we can continue to support them in their future careers once they graduate.

We have also increased our resource on our Kazakhstan project and will hopefully have further good news in that region later in the year.

We would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone at WS, our employees and clients, their friends and families an enjoyable Easter break. We look forward to the approaching summer months and some pleasant surveying weather!!

The purpose of the event is to provide a collective and mutual platform for discussion, learning and development.

It focused on ‘the importance of geospatial technology in the world of today’ with many touting the advancement of this technology as the ‘4th Industrial Revolution’. Emerging technologies such as 5G have the potential to change the way in which we live, featuring in everything from autonomous vehicles, data transfer to even just simple streaming.

Talks were featured from companies such as Trimble, Faro, Larsen-Toubro and Four Square discussing a host of technological advancements and challenges. Whilst the world faces many challenges at present the global geospatial community continue to forge ahead with improvements that we will start to see very soon.

There was also a trade show / exhibition stand featuring various companies operating within the geospatial industry. This allowed delegates a chance to discuss technical and real-world issues with the experts on the stand.

Big thanks to Korec and the team for their hospitality throughout the event, hopefully we will see you all next time.
